Happy Fear Monster Friday everyone!
This week's comic goes along with last week, actually. Last week, George and I learned that it's okay to feel hurt, or any other so-called "negative" emotion. You feel however you feel, and there's nothing wrong with that.
On the other hand, sometimes without making a conscious effort to be thankful, we can so easily forget how lucky we really are. Except for perhaps a few rare moments, life is never going to be completely perfect. Your mind (or your fear monster) has a funny way of focusing on what's wrong and then totally missing out on all that's wonderful and beautiful around you.
There will probably always be something to complain about. But there will most definitely always be something to be thankful for!
The good news is, you totally have a choice about what to focus on. When you really want something, it can be easy to get tunnel vision and just focus on what you don't have. But when you focus on all the good stuff you already have, things have a funny way of shifting in the right direction. I can't explain it. I just know that when I'm focused on gratitude, there's all of a sudden more to be thankful for!
Like any habit, it takes a bit of practice to re-train your fear monster to focus on the good stuff. I recently started keeping a separate journal just for gratitude, and in just a couple of weeks, it's amazing how much my mood has gotten better! (I would highly recommend it as a part of your daily routine!)
So this week, I would invite you to stop, look around, and be thankful for what you have.
